How did we all become fans?
Well for myself(Ryan) and for my brother(Justin) we became fans a few years ago. Whilst going through channels on our fire stick, we came up on a football match between the Grecians and they were playing Walsall at home. Up until this point, we both had only ever followed the USA national team really and some local amateur clubs(This was before Charlotte got an MLS club). Of course, we knew about English football but mainly just at the Premiership level as that was what was shoved down your throats as it were over here(Especially Arsenal and Man United).
Anyway, we were bored so decided to watch the whole game and boy am I glad that we did! City went down by three goals in the first thirty minutes. A poor own goal and a couple of good strikes by the visitor and it didn't look good by any stretch. Parkes did a good job along with Ryan Bowman however to get two goals back before halftime and make it 3-2. Having no eggs in the basket as it were as far as who we wanted to win at this time, my brother and I were still on the edges of our seats as it was turning into a great game.
Second half Lee Martin ended up equalizing and really ECFC should have had a penalty shot and just barely missed winning it late on also. Overall, what a valiant effort from the boys in getting at least a point against a pretty decent Walsall team from what I can remember.
After the game, we decided to dive into the club more, their history especially. After reading about and loving the fan owned aspects of it especially, how much the community loved them, etc we were hooked and have been fans since.
As far as Tim and Amy they are a bit more straightforward haha. Tim is an American but his step-dad's family is from Devon and are diehard City supporters so of course that rubbed off on him. Amy has always loved sports and loves the Grecians now because of her husband. Their children will be diehard supporters as well I am quite sure.
What are our aims with this group?
We have been thinking about starting this supporters group for a couple years now but due to a variety of reasons just never have really gotten it off the ground. Now though, we are all in and ready to do so. We are a small number right now of Stateside Grecian fans, but our goal is to build the fanbase over here, network with City fans already living over here we don't know about yet, start a podcast, have merchandise, etc.
Any suggestions to help us with this will be greatly appreciated!
Lastly, we will update this blog with any group happenings(As well as use our X account for the same) along with game previews and reviews, etc. At least until we do start the podcast!
Thank you for reading and we are energized and excited to see where this adventure takes us!
